Snyder's Shades and Shutters has been a local, family-run business in Northern Virgina for over 45 years. We started as Snyder & Co. Hardware Store in Falls Church (bought by Marty in 1972) and quickly got into the at-the-time infant industy of custom, quality window treatments. Marty grew the window treatment side of the business over the years and when he sold the hardware store in 1996, he took the office into the home and continued Snyder's Shades and Shutters from there. We have built decades of relationships with our customers over thousands of homes and at this point, multiple generations of family members. Earning the loyalty of our customers and employees is just the way we do business. We genuinely care about the people we serve and the people we employ.
Craig Simon, President and Owner
Craig learned the window treatment business from the ground up. As a boy, he roamed the aisles of the hardware store and worked stacking boxes in the warehouse in high school. He worked with the installers and his dad during the summers while attending Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. Since graduating in 2007, he has been a proud partner in the family business. When his dad retired in 2017, he took the business over and has been eternally grateful for the opportunity to carry on the legacy his dad left for him.
Marty Simon, Founder (Retired...in Florida...Playing Golf)
Marty is the founder of Snyder's Shades and Shutters. He bought Snyder's Hardware in 1972 and shortly thereafter started up the window treatments center within the store. Since selling the property in 1996, he happily maintained the business as a shop-at-home window decor company. Marty has claimed that he has not actually worked in a long time because his job is too much fun for him to consider it work, and it certainly showed in the pleasure he took in helping each customer.
Marty has since retired in 2017 and moved with his wife, Meryl, to Florida. They now enjoy playing golf more days than not, traveling to see friends, family and the world, and honestly, whatever else the feel like now. He still has such fond memories of the years of growing and running the business and enjoys an update from Craig about his former customers every now and then. Just as long as it doesn't interupt his golf round!
